For a quarter century, we have proven that when we stand together against the impossible – we win

Our 25th Anniversary is not a celebration. It’s a declaration.

We won’t pretend this is a moment for celebration.

The environmental movement is facing some of its hardest fights yet, and powerful forces threaten the important progress we have already made.

But Stand.earth was not built for nostalgia—we were built for this moment.

A Declaration of What’s to Come

This year marks a quarter-century since the seeds of Stand.earth were planted. From a small group of activists with big dreams gathered under a canopy of towering trees, we have grown together into a strong and enduring organization that challenges corporations and governments to treat people and the environment with respect — because our lives depend on it.

And we win. Whether you’re new to Stand (welcome!) or you’ve been here since the beginning, you are part of Stand’s success. Thank you.

Together, we have secured government agreements to protect tens of millions of acres of endangered ecosystems; moved billions of dollars out of oil drilling in the Amazon; delayed or stopped 21 dirty oil and gas mega-projects; empowered cities to develop leading and innovative fossil fuel and climate policies; and moved more than $100 billion of purchasing power from sector-leading brands like Levi’s, Starbucks, and 3M to set new standards for corporate emissions and consumption.

Behind the victories of the past 25 years are huge challenges that prove that Stand doesn’t back down from a fight. We were sued by one of the largest logging companies in the world for $300 million. We beat that lawsuit and came out even stronger on the other side. Legal challenges? Government scare tactics? Industry intimidation? Death threats? We’ve faced them all. For 25 years, we haven’t backed down. We’re not about to start now.

We also know that winning is about more than fighting. Yes, Stand has a signature style of bold public actions that we leverage in moments when creating media buzz or mobilizing people power are the right tactics. But we pride ourselves on moving from conflict to collaboration. After all, we need as many allies as possible in order to drive change at the scale required.

Our first 25 years are just the beginning, and our work has never been more urgently needed. The second half of this decade will present unprecedented challenges and even higher stakes, but Stand was made for this moment. We’ll continue to hone field-tested strategies, try out inventive tactics, seek unlikely allies, and let data and breakthrough research lead the way to the next big challenges and the next innovative solutions. Because Stand’s 25th Anniversary isn’t just a time for reflection; it’s a declaration of what’s to come. Let’s go.

For the people and places you love,

Timeline of Historic Victories

2025+ Strategic Plan

Our strategic plan positions Stand.earth to win, no matter the political or economic challenges we encounter in years ahead. We’ll focus on three key impact areas where we can deliver transformative change at the speed and scale required; we’ll build strength and resiliency for the organization and the broader environmental movement; and, we’ll uphold our commitment to advance equity and justice in all of our actions to ensure people, climate, and biodiversity can thrive.

Lasting Impacts

We’ll defend forests and oceans from industrial destruction and pollution, by driving the passage of key policies that protect and restore flourishing ecosystems and communities.

We’ll accelerate a just transition to renewable energy, by targeting some of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions and rejecting false solutions like forest biomass.

We’ll expedite the end of production and use of fossil fuels, by advocating for the passage of robust policies and campaigning for investments to shift out of the industry.

Strong Movement

We’ll invest in people-centered leadership and management, training, policies and practices

We’ll foster the talent of individual campaigners, encourage cross-collaboration and leverage our unique tools to advance our campaigns and broader coalitions.

Core Values

Indigenous Peoples have sovereignty over their traditional and ancestral lands and waters

All people live in safe, abundant communities in which they have agency and belonging

Every one of the more than 1 million members of Stand.earth is a partner in the mission to move governments and corporations to treat people and the planet with respect, and implement solutions to the climate crisis at a scale our world requires.

Because our lives depend on it.

Voices of Our Collective Power

My parents are lifelong environmental philanthropists and my family has supported Stand.earth since I was a child. Meeting Stand campaign leaders, learning about their bold campaign tactics, and celebrating their advocacy wins were formative experiences when I was a teenager. Now, as I raise my young family, it feels important that I continue to support Stand so that I can show my two sons what climate action looks like today.

Noelle Marcus, Donor

For nine years as a field director at Stand, I collaborated with local leaders in the Pacific Northwest to take bold action that would restrict growth of dirty fossil fuel projects in our communities. I led winning climate campaigns⸺like eliminating methane gas from new buildings in cities across Washington⸺and that experience informs my work now as a Washington State Representative (D) to pass environmental legislation that will safeguard industry workers, the climate, and local economies.

Representative Alex Ramel, Ally

I was drawn to work with Stand about 18 years ago because of its commitment to cultivating an organizational culture of meditation, self awareness, and authentic communication, long before “mindfulness” had become the business buzzword it is today. These skill sets have helped our campaigners transform conflict into collaboration, a critical strategy for turning former adversaries into allies and winning the ongoing battles for climate justice.

Rev. angel Kyodo williams, Board Member

Over my 14 years working on the Stand operations team, I’ve supported the organization to grow from a small group of committed activists to an international community of change makers. I’m proud of our efforts to build sustainability, equity, and resilience into our core principles and culture, and I have witnessed how they translate into real impact for people and the planet.
