It’s that simple for Jim Clay and Andy Leebron-Clay. The pair are not just nature lovers with lasting memories of time spent in the woods; they have also seen what we lose if the forest disappears.

Andy grew up in Elk City, Oklahoma — the “fracking capital of the world” — and experienced a direct connection between resource extraction, the loss of the natural world, and the intensity of fires that came after. She empathizes deeply with fellow human beings around the world who need a climate-safe future in which to thrive.

After supporting Stand.earth for several years, Andy and Jim were invited on a special trip to visit the Great Bear Rainforest. “We saw a pod of whales, salmon runs, the abundance of life,” Jim said. “You’re left with appreciation for the beauty and a desire for those places to thrive.” The experience was a turning point for Jim and Andy.

Long time climate activists, supporters, and board members, the Clays prioritized the organization in their legacy, alongside providing for their kids and grandkids, because they trust Stand to carry on delivering the smart approach they’ve seen work so well.

Stand was the first organization that they saw using creativity and compassion in bold corporate campaigns that drove leading major multinationals like Starbucks, Levi’s, and Staples toward practices that are good for business and our planet’s future.

Jim and Andy’s legacy gift is rooted in love for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and the hope for their family to inherit a safe and healthy world where they too can create precious memories in natural places that speak to their souls.

The water has always been my place of reconnection. Since I first became Executive Director of Stand.earth in the early 2000s, standing in a stream with a fly-fishing rod in my hand has been my place to think, eventually to spend time with my sons, and to remind myself that I am part of an ever-changing world that flows around me.

Dropping a pebble into a stream creates waves that ripple out, often reaching shores you never see. Creating a lasting legacy gift to an organization you trust is much the same.

Look at the lasting impact we’ve already made, together. About 20 years ago, there was a huge shift when Stand and supporters like you pushed companies like Staples and Victoria’s Secret to stop buying raw materials from suppliers logging old growth forests. And with them, the rest of the industry changed course too.

We then expanded our work beyond forests to climate change. Together, we’ve used creative communications and savvy political work to take on industry for its disproportionate climate impact, and we have defeated dozens of oil and gas pipelines and rail terminals.

Together, we are pushing for a better world — with heart, hope, and pragmatism. We secure lasting, world-changing wins because we refuse to take no for an answer. We do it by listening to adversaries, making them more open to change, then welcoming them onto the right side of climate history as partners.

As our track record now stretches into a third decade, you can count on us to deliver even more breakthrough victories for people and the planet. You have my word. Thank you for thinking of Stand.earth as you plan your legacy.

A message from our co-founder

In the 1990s, I found my life’s purpose in environmental action during the protests to protect Clayoquot Sound from logging. It is the same place I met my husband, where we had our wedding, and the place we honored when we named our first son Forrest. And it’s where Stand.earth...

In the 1990s, I found my life’s purpose in environmental action during the protests to protect Clayoquot Sound from logging. It is the same place I met my husband, where we had our wedding, and the place we honored when we named our first son Forrest. And it’s where Stand.earth and the strategies we still use today were born.

Today, I hold my ground at climate conferences around the world, where it’s still risky to say the F words  — fossil fuels — out loud. Taking action on climate and conservation is how I remain hopeful. And it propels me to keep up the fight for a better future.

That’s why I have remained involved for so long. Because what Stand knows how to do, and do well, is take action, build power, and create real change.

Together, with your help, we remain dedicated to securing a safer future for us all. We are not done holding corporations and governments accountable. We are not done preserving ancient pristine forests and serene cold fjords for future generations to marvel at. And it is never too late to take meaningful action on behalf of the people and places you love.

I found my life’s purpose in Clayoquot Sound, but I also found love and community. Through my lifelong activism, I’ve created a legacy of care for this planet, and for its mysteries and majesties that can still grace our children’s and grandchildren’s lives —
if we protect them now.

Today, I write to you about one of the most profound actions that anyone can make in their lifetime.

A legacy gift to Stand ensures your positive impact on the planet’s future, far beyond the horizon of what we can even envision.

As an extension of our many years of social and environmental justice activism, we have planned a gift in our will to Stand.earth.

We’ve had the privilege to work and live internationally, and have found that everything is interconnected. How we act as individuals or as nations impacts the planet and the lives of people around the world. As we enter our 80s, we wish to share our love and our resources through an estate gift to carry forward the Stand vision.

We are Building a Climate-Safe Future Where…

Forests
are protected

Our deepest roots are in the area of old growth forest protection — and we continue to defend the health and well-being of forests today.

Fossil fuels are
a relic of the past

Now is the time to end the production of new fossil fuels, enact clear transition plans, and accelerate the shift to clean energy.

Cities and transportation
are transformed

As more of Earth’s population moves into urban centers each year, we work to advance the incredible opportunities for game-changing, globally significant climate policies in cities worldwide.

Create a climate-safe future with us

Together, we’ve spent the past 25 years delivering real-world solutions to climate and environmental problems worldwide — and doing it with creativity and compassion.

As a dedicated member of this community, you can help us continue to hold governments and corporations accountable to a climate-safe future for the next generation. After you have provided for your loved ones, please consider creating a lasting legacy for the people and places you love with a gift in your will to Stand.earth.
