Nemo Guiquita testimony to California’s Environmental Justice Advisory Committee

Watch Nemo's testimony on how California's crude oil dependency impacts communities in the Amazon rainforest

Nemo Guiquita, a Waorani leader and CONFENIAE member provided a testimony to the California Air Resources Board’s Environmental Justice Advisory (EJAC) board open meeting on October 25th, 2022 about the impacts of oil production in the Ecuadorian region of the Amazon. California is the #1 buyer of Amazon crude oil — driving up the demand for oil expansion in delicate and biodiverse areas such as the Yasuni Park.

Nemo’s testimony speaks to the experiences of hundreds of thousands of Indigenous people living with the impact of weekly oil spills, contamination, and pollution. California needs to phase out Amazon crude without driving up domestic oil production.
