Stand.earth on U.S. Occupation of Venezuela: Fossil Fuel Imperialism for Elites and Billionaires
January 12, 2026
In response to months of increasingly interventionist U.S. foreign policy in the Latin American region, culminating in a unilateral military operation in Caracas on Jan. 3, Stand.earth unequivocally condemns the recent invasion and occupation of Venezuela.
As we continue to work alongside Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities, we oppose militarized forms of fossil fuel extraction that place geopolitical power and corporate interests above human rights, international law, and climate stability.
This is not only about oil, but also about attempts to control land and resources. This is why we must advance a just transition to sustainable energy that does not reproduce conflict, coercion, or exploitation, but rather is grounded in rights, peaceful cooperation, and equitable governance.
This reinforces what we already know: whether it’s more oil pipelines in Canada, fast-tracking LNG, or extraction in the Amazon Rainforest, fossil fuels are harmful for people and the planet, increasingly vulnerable to geopolitical and legal shocks, and extremely risky long-term holdings for investors.
While the majority of us struggle to make ends meet, we denounce the Trump regime’s focus on preserving profits for fossil fuel elites and billionaires at the expense of ordinary people and a livable climate.
