Stand.earth was founded 25 years ago, and 2025 is a big moment for us. I know, a lot of people aren’t in a partying mood. Those of us who care about people and the planet are facing some of our hardest fights yet. But remember, we’ve already fought some doozies — and we’ve won.
Stand’s 25th anniversary gives us a moment to reflect on the collective wisdom gathered in the past 25 years. I’ll tell you this — this is the fight of our lives and we are ready!
This Is Where We’ve Been
For 25 years, Stand has taken on some of the most powerful corporations and governments in the world. We have won against impossible odds — because we do what others won’t, and we don’t back down.
You are part of this bold, relentless, high-impact climate action. Thank you. You fuel hard-hitting investigations, direct action, and long-term pressure that forces change. A few highlights:
- Together, we have secured government agreements to protect tens of millions of acres of endangered ecosystems.
- We have delayed or stopped 21 dirty oil and gas mega-projects.
- We have moved more than $100B+ of purchasing power from sector-leading brands like Levi’s, Starbucks, and 3M away from climate-destroying practices — setting new standards for renewable materials, renewable energy sources, and emissions transparency.
Let’s gather everything we have learned — every victory, every hard lesson, every joy, every battle scar — and turn towards the opportunities on the horizon.
This Is What Comes Next
Stand’s strategy is field-tested. Our aim — to hold governments and corporations accountable, because our lives depend on it — has never been more urgent.
We are driving real climate solutions at the scale and urgency this moment demands, with strategies that break through the chaos of international politics:
- Advancing high-profile local government policies. Stand is uniting neighbors, local groups, and elected officials across Canada, the U.S., and the Amazon region who work hard to keep their communities safe from fossil fuels. Together, we’re stopping massive industrial infrastructure that devastates local ecosystems and passing policies that support safe, affordable renewable energy powered homes.
- Moving corporations. Stand is convincing massive global brands — like H&M, Amazon, and Apple — that what’s right for the earth is also right for their bottom line. We’re pushing them to become champions for change across the biggest commercial sectors and world economies.
- Leaning into legal challenges. Stand is using innovative litigation to force pension and retirement funds and major banks to exit their fossil fuel investments, and hold fossil fuel companies liable for greenwashing. Instead of propping up deadly, dying industries, we are reclaiming our personal and public funds to finance the climate-resilient future we want.
Honestly? I’m excited. This team was built for this moment. This work is often heavy. The stakes are always high. But we do not waver. We stand together, shoulder to shoulder, and we refuse to accept the limits of what other people think is “impossible.” I am grateful to you for joining us on this journey, whether you’re just getting to know Stand or you’ve been here from the beginning.
