June 2025 newsletter: The revolution will be powered by…

June 18, 2025

For 25 years at Stand.earth, we’ve embraced boldness — taking on powerful industries, uncovering hidden environmental destruction, and securing transformative wins for people and the planet. Our strength has always been rooted in our ability to act decisively, adapt quickly, and stay the course even when challenges arise.

Because we’re powered by people, not politics, we have the freedom to push for the most ambitious solutions and the agility to pivot when new opportunities emerge.

People like you make this possible. It’s our community of committed supporters who fuel our ability to think big, move fast, and drive change where it’s needed most. And now, with the launch of our monthly donor program The Continuum, we’re building a new era of action — bigger, bolder, and more unstoppable than ever.

More than just a name, The Continuum is the next evolution of impact: a powerhouse of monthly donors fueling bold action, keeping us agile, and ensuring corporations and governments never get too comfortable. Think of this growing collective as a new rallying point for dedicated people who fuel Stand’s work each and every month.

When you’re part of The Continuum, you’re never in this alone. You’re connected to a bold, unstoppable community that is powering game-changing investigations, strategic advocacy, and frontline action – all driven by people who believe a better future isn’t just possible, but that it’s already in motion.

We’re just getting The Continuum off the ground, and like any big idea, it’s going to take time to reach its full potential. But that’s the exciting part – watching this community and our shared impact grow into something truly remarkable. Thank you for joining us on this journey.

New fashion scorecard finds over 40% of brands backsliding as they increase pollution

For every fashion brand aligned with Paris Agreement benchmarks, nearly six are increasing their pollution. That’s according to new analysis in Stand’s 2025 Fossil Free Fashion Scorecard, which assesses the top apparel and footwear brands using several climate indicators.

It notes that of the 42 brands analyzed, 14 – or 33% of brands – reported sustained pollution reduction of more than 10% against their baseline, with only three (7%) fashion companies having done so in line with a 1.5°C pathway, the foundational benchmark of the Paris Agreement. At the same time, 17 (40%) of the 42 brands increased their carbon footprint compared to their baseline, outpacing those on a 1.5°C path by a nearly 6-to-1 margin.

As Amazon’s pollution soars by 75%, youth demand climate transparency before shareholders’ meeting

The day before Amazon leadership faced shareholder resolutions demanding greater climate accountability at its Annual General Meeting last month, a creative demonstration called out the company for its lack of transparency on carbon emissions and climate commitments.

That morning, a coalition of youth climate leaders, calling themselves “Youth for Climate Justice,” brought sponges, squeegees, and banners to Amazon’s Seattle headquarters to wash the company’s windows — literally and figuratively. The action spotlighted the growing pressure on the retail giant to come clean on the true climate impact of its operations, especially as the company expands polluting operations tied to shipping, deliveries, and data centers.

In September 2024, a Stand Research Group investigation revealed Amazon increased its emissions across its air, sea, and ground shipping and delivery by more than 75% between 2019-2023 – from 3.33 million metric tons to an alarming 5.84 million metric tons of carbon.

Uplifting update

New York City Comptroller Brad Lander recently announced new climate standards for pension fund asset managers, including clear net-zero goals that decrease their scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. This action is evidence of the strong potential for U.S. cities to drive sustained progress, despite the ongoing rollback of climate targets at the federal level.

As wildfire and hurricane season begins, Planet Bet launches to spark conversation on climate change complacency

Earlier this month, on World Environment Day, Stand partnered with Toronto ad agency The Hive to debut a spoof betting platform aimed at sparking conversation about the ways corporations and governments gamble with our planet by deferring meaningful action on climate.

The Planet Bet site claims to allow people to make wagers on natural disasters, featuring odds on severe weather events like tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, and more. However, when visitors go to place an actual bet on the platform, they are redirected to Stand’s website to instead take action to protect the planet.

Whether it’s making a wager on the number of tornadoes in 2025 or betting on the scale of the destruction caused by wildfires, Planet Bet leverages odds rooted in reality to demonstrate the disastrous results of corporations’ and governments’ inaction and complacency on climate change.

Bet on the planet, not against it
