Advisory: COP26 webinar to reveal new research showing Amazon rainforest at the tipping point
November 2, 2021
Researchers, Indigenous leaders to provide insight on what can be done to achieve 80% protection by 2025
WHAT: New scientific evidence recently released by a team of experts from the Geo-referenced Socio-environmental Information Network of the Amazon (RAISG) and the Amazonia For Life: Protect 80% by 2025 coalition presents an “x-ray” of the current deterioration of the Amazon, and at the same time a perspective on the opportunities to recover biodiversity in this region, one fo the most important regions in the world. The alliance and alignment between the ancient knowledge of Indigenous peoples and the new research offer a roadmap with various possibilities for governments, experts, civil society and Indigenous peoples living in this immense region to join forces to make the protection of 80% of the Basin by 2025 possible.
