Stand.earth on Canada’s Competition Bureau Finalizing Greenwashing Guidelines
June 5, 2025
Tkaronto (so-called Toronto, Ontario, Canada) — New guidelines from the Competition Bureau Canada have been finalized. With the final guidelines out, Stand.earth urges an end to fence-sitting by corporations in Canada who have been waiting on guidelines to disclose important climate data, or using the lack of guidelines as an excuse to backslide on environmental action
On the release of the final Competition Bureau guidelines, Richard Brooks, Stand.earth Climate Finance Director, offered the following statement:
“As we challenge greenwashing by Canadian corporations, including the biggest bank RBC, we appreciate the Bureau releasing guidelines to ensure communities aren’t being misled. Just like we can’t allow tobacco companies to claim to fight cancer while selling cigarettes, we can’t have banks and fossil fuel companies claim to fight climate change while financing, or engaging in actively growing, climate pollution. The Bureau should provide even more examples to companies to ensure that companies comply, and don’t use the law to avoid disclosing important environmental data to investors and consumers, or as an excuse to rollback climate action.”
