Stand.earth reacts to Maersk changing course back towards fracked gas (LNG)
August 7, 2024
Unceded Coast Salish Territories (VANCOUVER, BC) – Reacting to news that Shipping monolith, Maersk, intends on securing vessels which will run on fracked gas (LNG), Canada shipping campaigner, Anna Barford said:
“As one of the most well known marine shipping brands, Maersk has been raking in record profits on a very fragile planet. That money could be spent on plotting a course towards climate-safe sustainable shipping using renewable energy. Going ahead with new LNG, or fracked gas-driven vessels, not only goes against their own admission that LNG is still ‘a fossil fuel’ that ‘just doesn’t solve the problem’, but it steers all of us towards worsening climate impacts and unnatural disasters.
And to be clear, “bio-LNG” is a dangerous distraction and is still methane, an incredibly potent climate-damaging gas.”
