Stand.earth welcomes Seema Joshi to its Fashion and IT team

February 22, 2023

International environmental organization Stand.earth is pleased to announce that Seema Joshi has joined its growing team as Fashion & IT Campaign Director.

In close partnership with the executive team and senior campaign staff, Joshi will lead fashion and IT campaigns aimed at decarbonizing global supply chains. She comes to Stand with an extensive background in human rights and corporate accountability campaigning.

Stand’s fashion and IT campaigns focus on pressuring some of the world’s biggest brands to drastically reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by moving their global supply chains away from fossil fuels and rapidly deploying renewable energy technologies, especially in southeast Asia, where many of their manufacturing facilities are based. The fashion and IT sectors are each responsible for up to 8% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions, with emissions for both projected to significantly increase in the next two decades.

“This is an exciting time to join Stand.earth as the organization drives large corporations to drastically phase out coal and modernize their supply chains with renewables,” Joshi said. “As major carbon emitters, it is critical that fashion and IT brands decarbonize with urgency, while respecting the rights of workers and frontline communities, especially in global south countries where many of their supply chains are based – and I look forward to leading Stand’s campaigns alongside the fashion and IT team.”

Joshi has more than two decades of global experience working on human rights and climate justice issues. Most recently, Joshi acted as the Director of Campaigns at the UK-based NGO Global Witness, where she oversaw investigations, advocacy, and campaigning focused on exposing and holding abusive actors accountable for exacerbating the climate emergency. Previously, Joshi acted as Program Director/Head of Business and Human Rights at Amnesty international’s Secretariat in London, where she led the organization’s work on corporate accountability for nine years. While living in the Asia Pacific, Joshi worked with the United Nations, implementing an environmental governance program that spanned a dozen countries. She is trained as a Canadian lawyer and holds a master’s in international law. Joshi is based in London.

“We are proud to bring even more international leadership to Stand.earth, and Seema Joshi is the latest addition to our incredibly effective and growing team,” Stand Executive Director Todd Paglia said. “Seema brings extensive experience in corporate campaigning and international law, and we look forward to her continued expertise in advancing environmental justice within global supply chains.”
