“The confirmation of Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson to be US Secretary of State is further proof that the Trump Administration is completely in the pocket of Big Oil. Tillerson — who has spent his entire adult life working for one of the worst corporate actors on the planet — should never have been nominated, much less confirmed for America’s most important diplomatic post. However, we are heartened by the opposition to his appointment, including in the usually staid Senate, where more Senators voted against Tillerson’s nomination than any other Secretary of State nominee in U.S. history. Tillerson’s confirmation also comes during a period of unprecedented opposition within the State Department, with over 1,000 employees that have already signed onto a formal dissent opposing Trump’s racist attempt to ban Muslims from entering the country.”
