Brand Roadmap for a Just Energy Transition in Bangladesh

Stand.earth, Oxfam in Bangladesh, and the Bangladesh Center for Workers Solidarity recently launched the Just Energy Transition Roadmap, which was developed in consultation with key stakeholders in Bangladesh to outline key actions and conditions for brands to actively enable a just energy transition that supports workers.

In a launch webinar in February, the organizations set out the key tenets of the Roadmap, sharing how brands can make the just energy transition a reality in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is one of the most climate vulnerable nations worldwide, and the second biggest exporter of textiles.

Workers and communities as well as industry structures are regularly negatively impacted by extreme heat and other climate events, while progress to decarbonise manufacturing and adapt to new climate realities is slowed by a lack of investment and adequate policy arrangements.

Fashion brands have a responsibility to act on harm in their own supply chains. That means developing new systems of responsible supply chain partnership which actively support and enable a just energy transition that does not disadvantage manufacturers or further harm workers.
